Technology Buzz

Posted by: on Monday, March 8, 2010

Perhaps I’ve developed a heightened sense of awareness – like when you buy a new car and then you start seeing the same kind of car everywhere you look – or maybe it’s just the optimistic nature of entrepreneurs, but there seems to be a lot of local buzz about technology.

As a member of the Suncoast Technology Forum and the owner of a marketing company that targets software businesses, perhaps it’s natural for me to focus on technology. You might say that it’s wishful thinking, or one of those self-fulfilling prophecies for me to want more potential customers closer to home.

However, I believe the reality is that the local business community is tired of being tied to tourism, service and agriculture. Not that anyone wants those industries to go away. We still have really nice beaches. We have more than our fair share of visitors and retired people who need services. And our climate (not so much this winter) is what allows so many things to grow. Whether you listen to the folks at the EDC, or you pay attention to our local government officials, or you just read the newspaper, you have to admit that people are getting excited about what technology can do for our community.

Not only that, but I also get the sense that people are taking the long view. You don’t get the same feeling as the dot com boom and bust. It’s about sustainability. Not just earthy-crunchy green sustainability, but long-term investment strategy sustainability.

How do you view technology? Are you using technology to differentiate your business? What are you doing to promote that message to your customers?

Give us a call. We can help.

Until next week,
