Technology trade show was well attended

Posted by: on Monday, June 7, 2010

I attended the TBTF (Tampa Bay Technology Forum) 2010 CoolTECH event last week up in Tampa at MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry). The technology trade show was well attended with at least 35 exhibitors and more than 450 attendees. This was my first TBTF event, and a dual-membership benefit of STF.

The highlight of the event was the keynote speaker, Frank Farrow, who heads up New Technology Research & Development for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Frank is an excellent speaker who offered an interesting technology- skewed perspective on the world of Walt Disney.

It was great to see a few familiar faces at the event and I was happy to make some new acquaintances. I even stumbled across at least one good lead for Milestone.

But the real benefit was the chance to see a TBTF event in action. Now that I’ve taking on the responsibility of event chair for STF, it was great to see what we’re aspiring to become – a truly professional technology organization that attracts good people in large numbers and creates a buzz within the industry.

We can do it to, but it’s going to take plenty of hard work from a lot of different people. The good news is that support seems to be coming out of the woodwork. Plus I would be remiss to not acknowledge the progress that 82 Degrees Tech made over the last few years. Now that we’ve made the transition to STF and built and alliance with TBTF, I think we’re ready to kick it up a notch.

Towards that end, I was speaking with Tom Frank (STF immediate past president) and Anand Pallegar (TBFT president) at CoolTECH, and we’re going to plan some kind of joint kickoff event sometime in the next 30 days or so. Stay tuned…

Until next week,
Matthew Anderson, President
