Techno-centric Society

Posted by: on Monday, August 2, 2010

August is shaping up to be a busy month. This week alone I have five networking events lined up:

  1. First Monday at the First Street Chop House
  2. TechFast Breakfast at the Polytechnical High School
  3. Siesta Key Kiwanis Club at Café Baci
  4. August Networking Social at Keiser University
  5. Regional Summer Mixup at Gold Coast Eagle Distributing

The rest of the month is full of activity too. Dana is going to New Jersey for 10 days to help her sister with her new baby. Catherine starts second grade in three weeks. Mia’s day care is closed for two days before the new school year. Between now and then we’re trying to cram as much summer fun as we can into the calendar.

With all the time we spend arranging our schedules to drive around town dropping off and picking up our kids, I’m amazed that my wife and I have time to work, let alone spend time with each other.

Much has been written about the pressures of our techno-centric society – how all our time-saving gadgetry seems to make people more frantic rather than allowing them to savor the good things in life.

But of course that’s the point. The good things in life are defined by your priorities. Cars, computers and cell phones – these things are merely means to an end - tools you may use on your pursuit of happiness.

Until next week,
