Happy Birthday, Mom!

I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend. We certainly did. The girls spent the night (Catherine with Auntie E, and Mia with Nana) on Saturday allowing Dana and I to enjoy a rare kid-free evening.

We took advantage of the opportunity to stay out late and attended Noise Ordinance 2, a concert that featured 39 local bands. Not only did we hear some great music, but we also ran into a dozen people we know – some new friends and others we haven’t seen in years. That always seems to happen at the Cock & Bull.

On Sunday most of the family gathered at Mom’s house for brunch and an Easter egg hunt. A good time was had by all, but we missed a number of people this year. Dana’s parents were unable to attend as Suzan had to work. My father is in Raleigh with Marcia, and this was our first Easter celebration without my grandmother who passed away in December.

Sadly this is a very difficult time of year for my family. In two weeks it will be two years since my brother died. We all still struggle with his death, but none more than Sky. I commented to my nephew that I can’t believe it’s been two years as it feels like the time has gone by so quickly. He said it feels more like ten. It breaks my heart.

On a happier note, today is my mother’s birthday. And despite all of our trials and tribulations, life is pretty good. So with that in mind I smile and say, Happy Birthday, Mom! We’ll see you and Sky tonight for dinner…

Similar to last week’s update there are two great events this week that I’d like to bring to your attention:

First is the Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance Golf Tournament on Friday, April 29^th at the Ritz-Carlton Sarasota Members Golf Club. Longtime readers may recall me plugging this event a few months ago. At this point not only is the tournament sold out, but we also exceeded our fundraising goal. Now it’s time to pull it all together. I can’t wait to check this off my list!
