Goodbye to an old friend

I received sad news about an old girlfriend this weekend. Kirsten Koblenzer passed away suddenly on Friday due to some health complications. She was only 41 years old.

We only dated for a few years during high school and college, but they were formative years for me, and Kirsten was my first serious girlfriend. We didn’t remain close, but I still cherish those times and that circle of friends.

My mother saw the news on Facebook and called me on Saturday to let me know. Since then I’ve checked Kirsten’s page a number of times, and I’m happy to see that she is loved by so many friends.

My heart goes out to her parents and her sister, especially having suffered the loss of my brother (another member of that circle some 20 years ago), but I am looking forward to her funeral on Saturday. It’s terribly sad to say goodbye to an old friend, but somehow it helps.
