Boy Was He Surprised

Last week Dana and I enjoyed a much-needed, kid-free vacation. But I can’t take credit for taking a little time off with my wife. Vicki Gillum, Milestone’s public relations specialist, had been planning a surprise 40^th birthday party for her husband, and my former business partner Mike, for nearly a year.

And boy was he surprised. He figured out they were going on a cruise when they blew past the Miami airport last Monday morning. But he had no idea they were cruising to the Bahamas with a group of 25 people! Family and friends from four states came together for the event, and a great time was had by all.

Thanks again Vicki for organizing such a wonderful trip. And a special shout out to Jim from Captivation Media who we ran into on the same ship with his team and their spouses for their annual Captivation Cruise. Very cool!

“To Boldly Grow” is the theme of the Sarasota County EDC Investor Update Breakfast on Tuesday morning at the Laurel Oak Country Club. I love the Star Trek reference, and we can certainly relate to the topic of risk and reinvestment during the recession. I look forward to hearing from panelists; Rick Espino, President & CEO of Centauri Specialty; Art Lambert, Co-owner of LexJet Corporation; and Rob Campbell, CEO of Voalte.

Our Kiwanis club is hosting a Special Guest Day for prospective members at this week’s lunch meeting. Please join us in laughter for standup comedian and local business owner, Les McCurdy, of McCurdy’s Comedy Club, this Wednesday at Café Baci. Lunch is only $15 dollars and you’ll get to meet some of the great folks who volunteer their time for the Mighty Siesta Key Kiwanis Club.
