March for Babies
The Siesta Key Kiwanis Club sponsors a Builders Club, a children’s version of the service organization, at Sarasota Middle School. I spearheaded the effort four years ago, and Marti Watson, the school’s guidance counselor, has done an outstanding job helping the kids grow their club.
The SMS Builders Club organized their first official fundraiser; a March for Babies supporting the March of Dimes. The kids solicited sponsors for a walk at Oscar Scherer Park on Saturday morning. Some members from our club also participated in the walk and prepared a BBQ lunch for the hungry kids.
Here is new club member Bill Irish dousing the flames with fellow grill cook Chet Wanvig. Great job on the burgers guys!
I would like to recognize and thank Drew Lowther, our club member who has led our sponsored leadership programs for the past two years, for helping the kids organize this wonderful event.
