Sweetheart Dance
About a year ago I attended my first daddy-daughter dance with my older daughter, Catherine. It didn’t go well. We ended up going home after a few minutes because she didn’t want to dance and she couldn’t find any of her friends. At the time, I predicted my younger daughter, Mia, would not be so easily dissuaded.
As I expected, Mia had a great time at the Girl Scouts Sweetheart Dance on Saturday night. Here we are all dressed up and ready to go:
However, the dance was almost a bust. Did you notice Mia’s incredibly tall platform shoes? Yes, they are fabulous – a fine birthday gift – and Mia was determined to wear them to the party. But as every girl knows, her feet were hurting early into the evening.
She wanted to go home and change. I said we couldn’t leave the dance and come back. She wanted mommy to bring her another pair. I explained Dana was out with Catherine. I informed her lots of girls kick their shoes off and dance barefoot. She didn’t believe me.
After a few sobs she pulled herself together. We went for a walk outside. We checked out the rest of the party, and before you know it she was dancing (without her shoes, like many other girls) and having a wonderful time. She even won a raffle prize before the night was over!
In other news this week, the Suncoast Technology Forum is hosting their monthly Techbyte Luncheon on Tuesday, April 16 at the Polo Grill and Bar in Lakewood Ranch from 11:30am to 1:00pm. The topic is “Trends and Best Practices for Outsourcing IT” presented by Atal Bansal, CIO of Chetu, Inc.
Coming up this weekend I will be in Jacksonville attending the American Advertising Federation Fourth District Annual Conference and District ADDY Awards. District conferences are always fun and since this will be my last one as president of the Suncoast chapter, it seems extra-special.
Until next week,
Matthew Anderson, President
