Searching Mobile

Posted by: on Monday, May 27, 2013

Last week we established that approximately half of the 2.3 billion Internet users worldwide have the ability to access the web from their smartphone. Here’s another statistic, further evidence of the importance of this upward trend to your business, more than 25% of all Google searches now originate from smartphones and mobile devices.

When you realize more than half-a-billion people are searching the Internet from their mobile phone, you may wonder why and what are all these people searching for. Good questions. Here are some answers from a Vocus blog post titled, “Mobile Search Moments Study: Five Key Stats for Marketers.”

81% of people prefer mobile for convenience and speed

We live in a fast-paced world. Everyone knows about the ‘opposite effect’ technology has on our lives. Rather than freeing up our time to spend it on more important things like family and friends, technology has consistently raised the bar of expectations.

Despite the conveniences of our modern world, most of us find ourselves working longer and harder than ever before. We have always adapted to these higher expectations. Fifty years ago it was fast food – lauded for its speed and convenience. Today it’s finding the information you’re looking for on the Internet.

Be sure to follow the link above to read about the other mobile search stats including; 45% of mobile searches are ‘goal-oriented’ and 17% of people make a purchase after mobile search. Unexpectedly they also found only 12% use mobile because they lack a computer and 77% of mobile searches occur at home or work.

What are these people are trying to find? Pay attention restaurant and bar owners! Lee’s favorite statistic about mobile marketing is one third of all mobile searches are for dining & nightlife. So, what does your website look like on a phone?

Until next week,
