Presidents Day

Posted by: on Monday, February 15, 2016

Whether you’re a traditionalist, preferring to celebrate Washington’s Birthday on February 22, or you like the modern interpretation of the national holiday that honors all U.S. presidents – past and present – you have to admit the eyes of the country – and the world – are more focused on our next president.

Much like talking about religion or politics over Thanksgiving dinner, I don’t think such divisive topics are appropriate for this blog. I certainly have strong opinions on the subject, and I’m happy to debate them, but this forum is about Milestone – a small business that began in the pit of the recession, not long after President Obama took office, and we will continue regardless of who wins the election in November.

Whether or not you’re a fan of politics, this presidential election season has certainly been entertaining. More than any election in my lifetime, this is a battle – for both Democrats and Republicans – between the establishment and the outsiders. Who will win? It’s hard to say.

Trump continues to dominate the Republican primary. No matter what comes out of his mouth, Trump supporters can’t seem to get enough, and his poll numbers keep rising. Can one of the other Republicans catch him? We shall see…

Sanders and Clinton are in a tight race for the Democratic nomination. Much like the Republican primary there isn’t a big difference between what either candidate says. The big difference is how they say it.

Like Trump, Sanders has tapped into the anger of the American electorate. Will either outsider win the nomination? Of course we don’t know, but one thing is certain. Given the divided nation we live in – no matter who wins the primaries – we’re in for a monumentally contentious general election.

Until next week,

Matthew Anderson, President
